About

Email: priya@thetherapyspace.co

I believe that each of us has a unique and powerful story that deserves to be heard and validated. I meet people where they are and walk alongside them in the journey of exploring themselves and their strengths that precede healing, restoration and growth. Having lived in many cities across the globe has taught me to truly appreciate the diversity in human nature and culture. I’m committed to empathetic listening and providing a safe space that is filled with genuine curiosity, a nonjudgmental stance and sometimes humour!

I work with women and young adults struggling with anxiety, burnout, stress, and relational and childhood trauma. My practice is culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and client-centred and I employ an eclectic approach drawing from DBT, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy, ACT and Internal Family Systems and I bring along my invaluable experience working in both private and community health settings.

When I’m not in sessions, I’m a busy mom to two young children, goofing around and making memories. To refuel myself, I travel, play string instruments, watch Netflix crime thrillers and of course indulge in food!!

Q&A with

Priya Prince

What is it like working with you?

Working with me as your psychotherapist means engaging in a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic journey. My approach is rooted in creating a safe  space where vulnerability and authenticity is embraced. I prioritize building a strong therapeutic alliance, as I believe that a trusting and respectful relationship is fundamental to effective therapy.
During the initial session, an overall assessment, treatment plan and therapy goals will be discussed and every session following will be tailored to the unique needs of the client such as learning skills to manage everyday stress or processing a deep traumatic event from the past or present.

My goal is to support you in gaining self-awareness, developing coping strategies, and achieving your personal goals. I encourage open dialogue and value your input in shaping our work together and I am committed to helping you navigate challenges and celebrate progress, with the ultimate aim of fostering growth, resilience, and well-being.

What do you like most about being a therapist?

What I cherish most about being a psychotherapist is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Witnessing clients' growth and transformation is incredibly rewarding and I find deep satisfaction in supporting them navigate their challenges, uncover their strengths, and work toward their personal goals.

The collaborative nature of therapy allows me to build profound, trusting relationships with clients, which I find both inspiring and fulfilling. Each person’s unique story and journey provide endless opportunities for learning and personal growth. I find myself in perpetual awe of the  extraordinary ability of the human brain to heal and change and the resilience of humankind that brings hope, I strive hard every day to bring this hope to my clients, one session at a time!

What are some ways you take care of your mental health?

My understanding of self care has evolved so much in the past years and I acknowledge the power of ‘being’ and consciously refrain from constant ‘doing’. I prioritize self-care through a combination of practices that support my well-being and professional effectiveness.

As a psychotherapist, I recognize maintaining my own mental health is essential to providing effective and compassionate care to my clients. Balancing work with personal interests and activities is another key aspect of my self-care. I engage in hobbies such as music and travel, physical exercise, and mindfulness practices to manage stress and maintain a healthy work-life balance. By nurturing my own mental and emotional health, I am better equipped to support and guide my clients through their therapeutic journeys.
